So Long, Bea Arthur (Cantina Denizens: Greedo, Hammerhead, Snaggletooth, Walrus Man)

ed: Actress Bea Arthur died on Saturday, April 25, at the age of 86. Better known for her work in well-loved television shows like Maude and Golden Girls, she is also remembered as the cantina bartender in the otherwise painful Star Wars Holiday Special. The special aired only once in November of 1978. Bea Arthur will be missed.

  1. Bea Arthur seemed to be the natural leader of the The Golden Girls

  2. Ah yes! The Holiday Special! It’s not only the wierdest thing that’s ever aired on T.V., it’s probably also the darkest and most ‘un-festive’ holiday show ever made (laughs). I love Christmas to death, but me and my buddies usually reserve watching our beloved bootlegs of it in the summer, as it can crush the holiday spirit.

I was too young when it originally aired, but my friend Kevin’s dad was a big Star Wars fan, and they were among the very lucky few to have a VCR and he recorded it at the time. A few years later I saw it. I was probably 6 or something, and I didn’t like it. It really scared me for some reason. haha.

    The cartoon is cool though!
